Changes to the quest to make it less tedious:

Anson is always up and has a significantly relaxed faction requirement.
Advisor C`zatl always drops robe of the kedge.
Coercer Q`ioul always drops her robe.
The ghoul arch magus respawns every 5 min, has no placeholder, and has a 50% chance of dropping the robe.
Vilnius is always up.
Placeholders removed from kobold king, and he always drops his weapon.
Placeholder removed from kobold champion, and he always drops painbringer.
Karg always drops his weapon.
Froglok king has no placeholders and always drops his weapon.
The pickpocketed items now always drop.

Tips:

If you find the dark elves hard to solo, consider getting the escape AA. You can assassinate one of the smaller elves, run away, and then use Escape.
Pull from a range, only 2 enemies will go for you.
Make Save Life Potions.
